Message from Reverend Amy

As the hurricane heads in our direction, I am thinking of all the people whose lives will be touched by this storm. Whether the predictions are over or under, there is no doubt some people’s lives will be changed forever by this weekend. We offer our prayers and best wishes with the hope that people and creatures will find shelter. Let us remember to reach out to not only our loved ones but friends and neighbors. May all be safe in the coming days.

With care,

Rev. Amy Brooks

P.S. Due to the hurricane, Coddle Creek Elementary school has just informed us that all weekend events at the school are cancelled. Therefore, we will not be holding service this Sunday, September 16th.

Pride Parade Thanks

Thanks everyone for making our 2017 Pride Parade entry one of the best ever! To all our walkers and float riders - you're the greatest and I hope everyone had a wonderful time. Thank you to the Pride Parade committee for tirelessly working to plan and organize our entry and to get all our signs, decorations, and give-aways together - they are: Al Allen, Deb Davelka, Veronique Singerman, and Pat Wall. Thanks also to Jim Price for his truck and to Karl Hesse for his trailer. Thanks to Erik Dutton, Sarah Dutton, and Judy Poler for creatively decorating the float. We have Pam Whistler and Jeff Jennings to thank for the water. Thanks to all the monitors for keeping the float and parade attendees safe: Grace Bouchoucha and her daughter, Jennifer Bower, Deb Davelka, Erik Dutton, Karl Hesse, Ron King, Doug Moore, Meredith Norman, and all the people from Appalachian State. Big thanks to Sarah Dutton and friends for proudly carrying our church banner. And thank you to those I missed.

Lynne Godfrey, Pride Parade Committee Lead

2017 Charlotte Pride Parade

2017 Charlotte Pride Parade
The Charlotte 2017 Pride Parade is just around the corner -August 27th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm! We are still looking for monitors for the float so please click here and sign up if you can serve in that role - it just means that you march closest to the sides of the road to prevent anyone from getting in the way of the parade. There are still a few seats left on the float too, so let us know if you would like to ride. Maps of the float staging area and the parade route will be made available as soon as the Charlotte Pride Parade organization publishes them, so stay tuned. It's going to be a wonderful day

UU Womenspirit Spring Event

Registration is now open for UU Womenspirit’s Spring 2017 event Ancient Whispers: A Pilgrimage to Women’s Mysteries May 17-21, 2017. Once upon a time, long ago, women were cherished and revered as symbols of the Mother Goddess, the source of all life. For thousands of years people lived in peace, creating civilizations that honored harmony and community. This theme goes back to the very roots of our organization and why women came together 30 years ago to learn, worship and commune. We will be revisiting those beginnings, having a reunion with old and new friends, refreshing our traditions and spirits and CELEBRATING!
To register: Registration deadline: May 12. For more info contact Alice Carnes at or 704-453-4175.

Regional UU Picnic

Join all UU's for our third annual picnic as we all gather together to meet with the Lake Norman, Piedmont, and Charlotte congregations. The picnic will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Reedy Creek Park, SHELTER #4, (follow the signs to the shelter) rain or shine. Please bring enough folding chairs for your family and a dish to share that will feed your family. If you have special food needs, please bring accommodations. Activities for children will be available and we are asking musicians to bring instruments for an open jam session after we eat. Come celebrate being a UU and meet other UU's in the area!

Lake Norman's Spiritual Exploration Teacher Lives Her Dream

Delia Zarate-Martinez has accepted an exciting invitation to teach yoga and practice Reiki at a six-week retreat in Spain beginning in April.  That will launch several months of travel to realize a long held dream.  Delia hopes to deepen her yoga and healing practice and to do spiritual work through pilgrimage.   All while soaking up other cultures around the globe.

Deliahas given our children her energy and inspiration in the nearly year and a half she has led our SE class.  And we wish Delia all the best as she enlarges her own spiritual exploration.
